Overlap and Clik get compared often, and fairly. Both describe themselves as AI workflows for video. If you’re evaluating one, you should be evaluating the other.

But the two diverge somewhere most comparisons never reach, because it happens before either feature list starts: what you’re allowed to hand the system on day one. Here’s an honest attempt at that comparison, including where Overlap is ahead of us.

The short version: a pipeline can only start once someone has decided what the video is. Which clips belong together. Which take is the good one. Where one idea stops and the next begins. Overlap assumes that decision is already made, because for a podcast episode it genuinely is. Clik makes the decision, and that is the entire difference. Everything else in this comparison follows from it.

What Overlap is genuinely good at

Overlap is built for podcast networks and broadcasters, and it is built well for them. Worth saying before any feature comparison: the product holds up under real volume, which is a bar most tools in this category have never been tested against.

The core is a node-based workflow builder. You connect a trigger to a chain of editing nodes and the pipeline runs on its own. There are fourteen nodes: Find Clips, Convert to Vertical, Add Audiogram, Add B-Roll, Add Brainrot, Add Music, Add Outro, Add Subtitles, Add Title Overlay, Add Watermark, Media Overlay, Remove Curse Words, Remove Filler Words, Smart Zoom. Nothing in that list is filler, and the small operational ones (curse word removal, watermarking) are what make a tool usable inside a broadcaster rather than just impressive in a demo.

Several things they do, they do better than we do:

The developer surface. A public REST API, a CLI, and an npm package. Not an API in the marketing sense, a real one. An engineering team can wire Overlap into an existing pipeline instead of adopting a new interface. We don’t match that today.

Distribution. Overlap posts directly to social platforms and gives you a calendar to review, approve, and schedule from. Clik does not. If your bottleneck is the last mile, Overlap closes a loop we currently leave open, and you should weigh that heavily.

Livestream and feed ingest. Audio livestream via RTMP and RSS triggers, alongside Dropbox and YouTube watchers. For a podcast network with a publishing feed or a radio operation with a live signal, that’s the right plumbing, and we don’t have it.

Enterprise support. A hands-on, demo-gated motion sounds like friction on a pricing page, but it means a named person helps you get set up. Some teams want exactly that.

The Studio timeline. After generation, Overlap gives you a real timeline editor for refining the result. Plenty of tools generate and then leave you to fix it elsewhere.

Overlap is a good product. Nothing below argues otherwise.

Where the architectures diverge

A node graph is a set of instructions for processing a video. It cannot tell you which video. All five Overlap triggers deliver exactly one file per run: manual upload, RTMP livestream, new Dropbox video, new YouTube video, RSS episode. One each. Their quickstart tells you to begin with “one recording, webinar, interview, or podcast episode.” Their API endpoint takes “a long-form video URL,” singular.

For a podcast network, that’s correct. Their atomic unit is one long recording. Building the system around it isn’t a limitation, it’s coherence.

But a lot of content work doesn’t arrive that way. A shoot day produces forty files across six unrelated concepts. A talking-head session produces nine takes of one script, three with a restart in the middle and one that’s the good one. A morning of street interviews produces sixty clips belonging to four different videos. A client dumps a Drive folder with a launch shoot, product footage, and a founder interview mixed together.

None of that has an entry point in a one-file-per-run system. Not because the nodes are weak, the nodes are fine, but because before any node can run, someone has to sit with the pile, decide that clips 4 through 19 are one video and 22 through 31 are another, pick which take is usable, and organize each concept into its own project.

That’s the step Clik starts at. Point it at a shoot, a podcast, or a folder of clips, and it sorts the footage into separate projects, plans each one, and builds them in parallel. It handles the A-roll judgment inside that (best-take selection, restarts within a take, production cues, off-camera notes) and pulls b-roll from your own archive rather than a stock library.

Not because we’re smarter. Because we started at a different point on the timeline, and everything downstream follows from that.

Node graph vs. guided

The second difference is what you have to learn before you can produce anything.

Overlap’s builder is the node-graph pattern, the same shape as Zapier and n8n. If you have built automations in either, you will be at home immediately, and a graph is a genuinely better artifact than a conversation once a process is settled. It is explicit, inspectable, and you can hand it to someone else and they can read it.

If you have not, it is a real learning curve, and it arrives before any of your footage does. You are learning a builder, not editing a video. You have to know the workflow in the abstract, lay out the nodes, wire the order, and understand what each one does to the file, all before the first clip moves. Teams that have tried to roll out Zapier past one power user know how this goes: the graphs get built by one person, and everyone else waits for that person.

It also breaks the moment footage stops matching the graph. A shoot that produced something unexpected, a client whose brand rules differ, a format you are still working out, and you are back on the canvas rewiring before you can process anything.

Clik is conversational and skill-based. You describe the workflow you want in plain language, the way you would brief an editor, and that description is saved as a reusable skill you can run again and hand to your team. Standardization happens after you have done it once rather than before you are allowed to start. The system also learns your team’s style over time (pacing, hook structure, caption conventions, title cards) and applies it across everything, rather than requiring you to encode it node by node.

If your process is settled and you have someone who thinks in graphs, wiring wins. If you are still working it out, or the person who needs the videos is not the person who would build the pipeline, describing wins.

To be fair about why: demo-gating is a reasonable choice when your buyer is a media enterprise with a procurement process. It is a worse fit when the buyer is an agency owner who wants to test something on a real client project this afternoon.

Choose Overlap if

Your input really is one long recording at a time: a podcast, a webinar series, a livestream, a show with an RSS feed. You want a workflow defined once as an explicit graph and run forever. You have engineers who’d rather call an API than open an interface. You need posting and scheduling in the same place the editing happens. You want a vendor with enterprise references and a person on the other end of the account. For that team, Overlap is likely the better buy.
